The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) has issued an order that no vehicle will be insured in the event of a pollution certificate. Irda has issued a circular on August 20 about it. The regulator said the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has expressed concern over the state of compliance with the above directive of the Supreme Court in Delhi and the NCR. He said that to ensure that the order of the Supreme Court should be followed sincerely, special attention should be paid to it in Delhi-NCR.

It is a certificate that states about meeting the standards of pollution control arising from vehicles. Pollution standard levels have been set for all types of motor vehicles in the country. Once a vehicle has successfully passed the PUC check, a certificate is issued to the owner of the vehicle. This is the second time that IRDAI has sent a letter to the CEOs and CMDs of General Boundaries and General Insurance companies to comply with the Supreme Court order. This type of message was previously sent in July 2018. In the new message, the IRDA said, "The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has expressed concern over compliance with the directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court in the National Capital Region (Delhi-NCR).

In view of the increasing pollution of vehicles, IRDAI in particular has directed all insurance companies to ensure that strict adherence to the Supreme Court instruction is followed in Delhi-NCR with special focus on compliance. Under the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019, issued last year, violating PUC standards will result in a fine of Rs 10,000. However, the new Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act is yet to be implemented across India. PUC certification is mandatory for all vehicles in India.
