Kutumb Sahay Yojana, Sankat Mochan Yojana

National Family Assistance Scheme (Sankat Mochan Yojana)

Under this scheme, if the main breadwinner of the family dies due to natural causes or accident, the following central assistance will be available.


In case of death due to natural circumstances, Rs.  30,000 / - in case of death due to accident Rs.  50,000 / -

Provision has been made in the scheme to provide higher cash assistance to the family in case of any calamity.  Earlier, under this scheme, Rs.  10,000 / - was given.  By increasing the amount to Rs.  50OOO / - has been done.

In case of such death, the main earner (he or she) should be above 18 years of age and below 30 years of age.  



To be eligible for assistance under this scheme, the applicant beneficiary should be a BPL beneficiary as per the guideline of Government of India.  

If the applicant lives in a rural area, he should be registered as a BPL beneficiary in the village panchayat in the municipality or in the municipal area. 


BPL beneficiary should be registered with the office of the municipality or corporation  Only one person has to apply as an applicant and all the family members have to give their consent.  

This assistance is not available to each member of the family separately. The definition of family for the purpose of this scheme includes spouses, minor children, unmarried daughters and dependent parents.



Where to apply?

For urban area which has to be applied in the provincial office of that area. 

For gram panchayat area - Under this scheme application has to be made to the Deputy District Development Officer. 

For Municipal Corporation area - Commissioner  Must apply at the branch.  

The authority to sanction assistance under this scheme is vested in the above officer and the application form will also be available from his office.

National Family Support Scheme- SankatMochan (NFBS):

(A) Eligibility Criteria:1. The family should be in BPL List

2. The natural or accidental death of the main income earner of the family
3. Age of dead male or female should be more than 18 years and less than 60 years
4. Application to be submitted within 2 years after the death

(B) Benefits: Rs. 20,000/- to the family.

(C) Where to apply?

2. Apply to respective Taluka Mamlatdar.
The TalukaMamlatdars are authorized to approve or disapprove the assistance under this scheme. An appeal can be given to Prant Officer in 60 days in case of disapproval of the application.
